Save the Admiral Twin

The Admiral Twin, in east Tulsa, is one of the last working drive-in theaters left in the United States.

By voting for the Admiral Twin in the Hampton Hotels Save a Landmark program, the drive-in will receive $20,000 for refurbishment.

I saw E.T. at the Admiral Twin in 1982; this is also the drive-in seen in Francis Ford Coppola's movie The Outsiders. Our kids are missing out on the fun and sheer Americana of a summer night at the drive-in. It's a shame, too.... it's hard to explain to teenagers what watching a movie at the drive-in is like when there's no drive-in nearby. The Admiral opens intermittently, and $20,000 will go a long way toward keeping it open throughout the long Oklahoma summers.

There's no registration required to vote, and you can vote every day. The other choice, BTW, is a bridge from that sappy book The Bridges of Madison County, which didn't do anything but sit there and be. The Admiral is a real landmark - made from the memories of thousands of Oklahomans, not from a mushy book.

Every Tulsan knows where the Admiral Twin is. Help it survive so our kids can enjoy a summer night there too.
