Friday Kitten Blogging

I really wish this was easier, but I've been trying to do this for three hours now and I can't figure out how to get it done.

I don't have good photo editing software - or decent instructions on how to use the software I have - so when I try to add a picture for you to see here, it takes up the whole screen. Our money obviously has to go other places than to purchase the new version of iPhoto, or even a book about the old iPhoto, so this makeshift page will have to do.

I'm trying to show you snapshots of a new kitten who adopted me. It's a little Siamese/Persian mix. It showed up here about two weeks ago on a Sunday, and I don't think it had eaten in a week. It gobbled up (if you can call taking 30 minutes to eat a can of food 'gobbling') two cans of food that night, and is now starting to gain some weight.

Now, this thing is tiny. Like teacup tiny. I've blogged here before about my two big black kitties, Tom and Jerry, who are huge black cats. Panther cats. Jerry is easily fifteen pounds, and Tommy's right behind him.

Well, both big black cats are terrified of this kitten. The pictures you see were taken on the back porch, where there's a hole in the screen for the cats to enter and exit the screened in area. The kitten sits in front of the door, blocking the way, and Tommy doesn't know what to do about that. Kitten advances to visit Tommy, just to say hello? Tommy runs. Gives a new meaning to the phrase 'scaredy-cat'. It's the funniest thing to see the kitten chase Tommy all over the porch. Tommy tried to hiss and scare the kitten, but kitten wasn't having any of that and just kept coming.

And Jerry? Jerry won't use the back door at all anymore. He sits out by the pond and whines for me to let him in the side door of the garage. Just today, Jerry finally came in the back door for the first time in a week.

The big cats have never had to deal with another cat, let alone a pushy little kitten who is taking their food (kitten isn't really taking their food, but that's how they see it). Both of them ran off for a couple of nights each last week, though not together, but I think they're coming around now and resigning themselves to the new kitten.

This little thing doesn't walk anywhere - he ka-boinks. My son first saw it in the backyard and thought he was a rabbit, because it was hopping everywhere. Ka-boink, ka-boink. So he chases my big panther kitty Tommy all around the porch, ka-boinking everywhere Tommy goes. Funniest thing you've ever seen.

Now, if someone wants to give me an iPhoto tutorial, or donate a copy of the new iPhoto or Adobe Photoshop Elements, next Friday you may not have to go to a .Mac homepage to see the pics.

But don't hold your breath. I seem to have run out of 'be nice to me' chances.
