If America were Iraq
"What if 3,300 Americans had died in car bombings, grenade and rocket attacks, machine gun spray, and aerial bombardment in the last week? That is a number greater than the deaths on September 11, and if America were Iraq, it would be an ongoing, weekly or monthly toll.""I saw this article yesterday, and finally decided to post it today after hearing the Iraqi prime minister brag to a joint session about the stunning 'progress' in his country.
Don't get me wrong, here -- I'm happy that children in Iraq have been vaccinated for polio, and that they're rebuilding schools that our army destroyed. But nothing will help those vaccinated kids if they can't get to the new schools because their homes were blasted to bits by an air raid, or if they can't walk down the street for fear of assassination.
Several military experts say that the short-term outlook in Iraq is terrible, barring stunning unforeseen developments, but Bush and his hand-picked prime minister keep their rose-colored glasses on -- while hundreds of innocent Iraqis die every month.
Read Juan Cole's work, and see if you could tolerate the numbers of dead and injured, and if their situation is 'improving' -- if it were right here.
