The P-P-P-PowerBook

See, this is what happens when you start using RSS feeds. You find stuff that occupies your whole damn evening.

It started because I belong to a site called Broadband Reports. I get their RSS feed from their forums, different news headlines that affect the broadband industry and possibly my DSL service. (They also have great tools for testing and tweaking your broadband connection.)

The headline that caught my eye today was about scams, and the increasing number of sites to fight 419 (Nigerian) scams and phishing attempts, things like that. The very first forum post was about the P-P-P-PowerBook bust.

Now, I usually don't go to the links in these posts; most of the time they're not worth my time. Trust me - you want to read this. I laughed so hard that tears were rolling down my face for fifteen minutes.

After I finished reading (and wiping my face, and reading it to my son who laughed harder than I did) I visited 419eater, where I continued my hysterical odyssey through the minds of the criminally stupid. The story of 'Brother Joe Eboh' and the Church of the Painted Breast is going to give me insomnia.

Over the past three weeks I've received four or five phishing attempts, most from 'banks' I don't do business with. It makes me crazy. I'm so happy to learn there are industrious souls out there willing to exact revenge, and that they're doing so well.

The al-Qaeda Striptease

From the Asia Times comes an intelligent and scathing chronology of post-September 11 events.

The author takes Pakistan and our own intelligence and law enforcement communities to task. He asks the questions that, for some reason, American 'journalists' aren't asking.

Be sure, if you're a Bush supporter, that you read Act 10. Then ask yourself if these 'elevated risk' alerts are really that or just political posturing.

I don't know if we can win this war or not. I hope so. But we sure aren't going to win it while the intelligence agencies - and our 'ally' in Pakistan - are so hopelessly mired in this political swamp.
