Electoral College Prediction Contest update
When you get there and look at the other entries (besides mine) you'll see that this is a partisan group. He says, and I have no reason to doubt him, that a majority of entrants in the contest pick Bush over Kerry. That's fine; the owner is a conservative and it only follows that people who read his blog would follow with his thinking.
Unless you have a blog, the grand prize isn't much, but I don't think that's the point. I like my guy, and they like their guys, and I want to see more representation over there for my guy. The polls are leaning to Kerry, and I think that contest should lean to Kerry, too.
So, I have a challenge for all my loyal little lambs: Go over to the contest site and enter. You have to provide an email address to enter, but trust me - there's no spam or any email at all from the site, so you can give your address without worry. Read the rules, and take your best shot.
When you sign up, do me a favor: Make up a username that has some form of 'braised', 'lamb' or 'lambchop' in it, so I'll know who's registered because of this post. Let's see if we can turn the tide here. It's all in fun, so let's have some.
There's a 'stats' page, where the current predictions about each state are shown, but remember when you look that it's not based on polls, but on the predictions of users who have entered the contest. For example, on this page Tennessee is shown as 'solid Bush', with 93.46%. If you look at the latest Tennessee poll, you'll see that it's definitely not solid Bush - it's too close to call. Just keep it in mind, and find your own polling data to make your own choices. You don't have to update your picks very often - I do it about every two weeks, although I follow the polling data closer than that.
And be sure you read the rules carefully. There may be an advantage in the last days before the election to marking some states 'undecided' rather than having a hard choice.
Remember: no hate, or mean comments, or disrespect. The owner of this site is very polite, and this is for fun, not earth-shaking political change. Everyone needs to read things with which they disagree. Discussion is good. Name-calling is out of the question.
In a month or so, I'll tell you how we're doing. Have fun.
