it's a....runoff
Watching the local news last night, it appeared to us that Herndon had soundly beaten both her Republican primary opponents with 72% of the vote. Imagine that - a television station getting election results wrong. Who'da thunk?
Also, by reading this article from our esteemed local birdcage filler, you'll see why we in Bartlesville call it that - their spelling and grammatical mistakes are nearly legendary here. They print press releases from political organizations word for word, even the errors. In this case, they can't even proofread enough to get Trower's name spelled correctly.
The letter I wrote hasn't been published, and I learned it probably will not be. Apparently this paragon of journalistic virtue refuses to publish any letter that mentions a candidate by name. You'd think they'd get the spelling errors fixed first. Since Trower has been told his scheme can't work, however, he shouldn't mention it again. If he does, I'll pounce on him.
Herndon, by the way, is the 911 coordinator for Washington County. This means she puts up with a guy I know named Kary Cox, who is the Emergency Management shah for the county and someone who loves accidents and tornadoes. If there's a flashing light, Kary's there. Anyway, she's worked for Kary for almost ten years, and that's enough experience for a county commissioner's job. Kary is a good guy and all, and he has every right to be proud of the job he's done, but I can't imagine working for him for ten years.
Wal-Mart manager, or someone who knows how to work with the county system already. That's not a hard choice.
