Garrison Keillor is a Democrat
I've been a fan of Garrison Keillor for almost 20 years. I listened to the first 'A Prairie Home Companion' when I was in college, then lost track for about five years. I picked it up again when we moved to Wisconsin, the colder, harder, meaner step-cousin of Minnesota. I got to meet Garrison when he did a show in Tulsa in 1993. He commented on my name, and told me it reminded him of an Elizabethan poem, and we talked for a couple of minutes. He gave me an autograph signed "To Delia. Love, Garrison Keillor" that hangs in my hallway today.
I'm so proud to have his autograph because Garrison can put into words what most liberals think - that we are Democrats because we have a conscience, and we know it just isn't right to give tax breaks to people so they can buy an extra pair of $500 Manolos every month, while poor mothers can't buy their kids one pair of cheap shoes every six months. People making millions a year eat at four star restaurants, while people making minimum wage eat dried beans, and macaroni and cheese. The rich in this country are getting richer at the expense of the middle class, and Bush is managing to convince that middle class that it's good for them!
So, before I rant any more and delay your enjoyment of Garrison's column, I will stop and send you to read the words of another liberal. I'm not ashamed or embarrassed to be a liberal. I'm proud.
